Callum's Descriptive Paragraph

Year Three were asked to write a descriptive paragraph containing:

7 nouns,               horses grass forest night trees mane hooves
6 verbs,                moving, running, sprinting galloping blowing following bolted
5 adjectives,         dead white black streak fast four blurry wild thudding
4 conjunctions,     and, but, yet, or
3 adverbs,            speedily, rapidly, beautifully, elegantly,
2 time adverbials, first, final third, secondly,
1 simile,                as quick as lightning

Here is Callum's writing:

One dark, eerie night, a group of wild horses stood motionless in the glowing moonlight. At first everything seemed calm and beautifully peaceful, but something was not quite right. Suddenly, something dark emerged from the gloomy forest yet it was just a farmer looking for some new horses. As quick as lightning, the horses turned and swiftly fled, galloping at top speed, their manes wildly flapping as they ran and their hooves thudding on the dead grass beneath them. Eventually, they slowed their pace and came to a stop beyond the forest having finally outrun the dark figure from the forest. Everything was calm and peaceful, or was it?

Halloween Rainbow Poems

Today, we continued writing some poetry. As part of our lesson about similes, the children wrote using the colours of the rainbow as part of their inspiration. Below are poems by Sian and Matilda, who chose to add a Halloween theme to their work.

A Rainbow Is…

As red as a strawberry, nice and juicy

As orange as a goldfish, breathing in the water

As yellow as a pot of gold, underneath this rainbow

As green as a pear, hanging on a tree

As blue as some water, in the bathroom sink

As purple as a plum, ripe and bright

Postcards From Greece

This morning, some Year Three children were imagining they were in Greece. In a combination of our current work in both English and geography, the children wrote postcards about what it would be like to be on holiday in Greece.

These examples were written by Maria, Yasmin and Ella.

Persuading The Teacher

As part of our persuasive writing lessons 3JC/DA wrote to their teacher to persuade them to let the class have some extra time on the Adventure Playground. Here are three examples of their attempts:

Mr Ainscow,

Please can you take us on the Adventure Playground because you have been working hard by teaching us. Mr Ainscow you will get some fresh air if you take us to go on the adventure. Mr Ainscow can you take us to go to the adventure playground because you will get fit.

Nydile

Please can you bring us onto the Adventure Playground. I promise we will all wear our coats and be very careful. You really deserve to get a run around for being such a good Assistant Headteacher.

Brodie

Dear Mr Ainscow

Please could we go on the Adventure playground. Firstly, we get some fresh air and you will have some time off your boring job. Finally, you will not have to shout at naughty children.

Harry

Dear Mr Ainscow,

You and Mrs Cook are the best teachers in the world. I think you and our class should have a break from all our work and we would like to go on the Adventure Playground because we haven’t been first in ages. We would really like it if we’re allowed. We all promise we’ll be really, really, really, really good.

Leia

We shall have to see if their efforts get them what they want!
