September's Learning

Year Three had a very busy start to their new school year! Have a look at some of the amazing work the children have completed.

In English, the children have been learning how to use the Accelerated Reader reading scheme. They have also been learning how to scan books on and off their account and enjoying some group reading sessions in our wonderful library.  In writing, the children have been thinking about writing accurate sentences, editing their work and learning about non-chronological reports.

In maths, the children have been learning about place value.  They have also been very excited to start using the Times Tables Rock Stars website!

In science, the children have been learning about the different types of teeth we have and what they do.  They also made their own set of teeth, created a poster about how to look after their teeth and did an experiment using egg shells.  The children also found out about food chains and worked in table groups to organise them.

In history, the children have been learning about the History and St Neots and how St Neots got its name. They found out so many amazing facts!

In art, the children have been finding out about the artist Lowry.  They then sketched different buildings in St Neots and drew and painted their own house.

In PSHCE, they have been setting classroom rules and thinking about their emotions.

In computing, they have been learning about Google Classroom and exploring Google Slides ready to make their own slide show about the History of St Neots using the information that they find out during the topic. The children have also been learning how to stay safe online.

They have also been busy learning French and learning to play the glockenspiel in music.  In RE, the children have been learning about people of faith.

In their outdoor PE lessons, they have been improving their ball skills.  In indoor PE, they have been working on their gymnastic skills.

Wow! What a busy month!

What a WONDERFUL start to their first term at Crosshall Junior School!

June's Learning

We’ve had another month full of exciting learning in Year 3!

In English, we’ve been learning how to write explanation texts and we have written all about how to use Accelerated Reader. We explained about logging onto the computer, we told them all about the sunflower and we even told them about the house points you get if you gain a certificate. We typed up our edited version ready for next years’ Year 3’s.

In Maths, we have been learning about different shapes and their properties. Our learning journey for this work led us to designing a cuboid graffiti wall and completing a shape treasure hunt. It was fun!

Science has seen us learning all about plants. We have investigated whether plants need leaves, we’ve studied the parts of a flower and painted them in watercolour and we have drawn fruit seeds.

Furthermore, our other work this month has included making fabulous Medusa clay plaques, finding out the correct scientific names for our body parts and designing beautiful photo frames.

Excitingly, we met with our new Year 4 teachers. We spent a morning trying to impress them with everything we have learnt in Year 3. We’ve learnt so much already but we’ve still a month to see what else we can squeeze in.

Finally, we’ve been practising our athletic skills in preparation for Sport’s Day. We can’t wait!

May's Learning

May has certainly been a busy month! Let's see what we've been up to in Year Three...

First, the school celebrated the King's Coronation in style. We wore red, white and blue and took part in some activities to learn about and celebrate our new King.

Then, we had an exciting trip to Cambridge to visit two museums. At the Fitzwilliam museum, we revised and learned more about the Ancient Egyptians! We were in awe when we learned how old some of the artefacts were. The giant sarcophagus lid which was found in Rameses III's tomb was particularly mind-boggling.

The artwork and hieroglyphics on the coffins were fascinating, even though we didn't understand much of it (we're good at reading hieroglyphics now, but not THAT good!).

We also visited the University Museum of Zoology, where we showed off how much we remembered about animals bodies, food chains and digestive systems. We also learned lots more about skeletons and bones. We were lucky enough to hold an elephant femur, a turtle skull and see plenty of incredible creatures!

In Science, we've been learning all about light and shadow. We began by investigating different materials and identifying which ones are opaque, translucent and transparent. Then, we used the knowledge we had gained to create our very own shadow puppets!

Crosshall Junior School also dedicated a whole week to maths! We created maze artwork, learned how to solve sudokus and learned about finances and budgeting. Some of us also challenged ourselves to take part in the St Neots Maths Trail. Phew!

Finally, many Year Three pupils went on their very first residential trip to Burwell House. Children who stayed at school and children at Burwell took part in many exciting activities, including natural art, the infamous Burwell Fox challenge and team building games. What an experience! Photos to come.
