December's Learning

We've been busy with our learning again this month.  Here are some snippets from some of our learning over the last few weeks.

In English, we have continued learning about editing our work and we wrote a post card about a trip to the North Pole. .  We found out about the features of instructions and wrote instructions about how to build a snowman.

In maths, we had a multiplication problem where we needed to help Father Christmas work out how much food he needed for his Christmas lunch.  We then started learning about division.

In.D.T., we made our own pneumatic toy. It was great fun!

In science, our Learning Journey led to designing and making our own game that used magnets.

Across the school, we met our CJS family and spent an afternoon together.  We got the know the members in our family and discussed some different statements about stereotypes.

We also performed a Christmas Assembly as a year group.  We learned songs, poems and played some musical instruments.

Wishing you a Happy Christmas from the children and adults in Year Three.

Year Three's Learning in November

We've had a very busy month!

In English, we were learning about shape poems.  We wrote simile rainbow poems and then wrote a firework shape poem.  Lots of our work was displayed in our classrooms.

We then started learning about play scripts.  We did lots of acting and found out the features of play scripts.  We watched The Snowman and then wrote a play script for a scene between James and the snowman; wrote a postcard about a flight to the North Pole and we even wrote a setting description using our different senses.

In maths, we carried on learning about addition and subtraction.  We solved lots of problems involving addition and subtraction and even helped Father Christmas prepare for his Christmas lunch!

In science, we have been learning about forces.  We found out about push, pulls and twists by trying to make different toys move. We then planned an investigation looking at how far a toy car travels on different surfaces.  We also sorted different materials into a Venn diagram using a magnet to help us.

In geography, we have been learning about the different continents, the U.K. and Europe.

During Anti-Bullying Week, we spoke about adults who can help us and what to do in different situations.  We have also been finding out about our emotions and how we feel in different situations and what we can do to help us in different situations.

We have also been learning some French, R.E. and how to stay safe online.  In P.E., we have been lucky to have Mrs Leighton from Hunts School Sports Partnership teaching us some striking and fielding skills.

On top of all of this, Pudsey Bear even came into our classrooms and sang Baby Shark with us! Plus, we have been learning songs and poems ready for our Christmas Assembly performance next month.

3CD and 3LJ - Museum Trip

The children in 3CD and 3LJ thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Sedgwick Museum and the Zoology Museum last week. At the Sedgwick Museum, the children got the opportunity to learn about rocks and look at different rocks under a microscope.  During their visit to the Zoology Museum, the children were able to touch some bones and skulls, sketch an animal skeleton and understand why a skeleton is important for humans and animals.  3LG & 3KW can't wait to go next week!

GeoBus - Rocks Workshop

Yesterday, Year Three were lucky enough to be virtually visited by GeoBus for a lesson on rocks! The children had a great time, especially when they were given 3D glasses to explore some images of rocks up close! They also learned about the rock cycle and tested themselves on what they've already learned about the topic in Year Three.
