Welcome to the Year Three website. On this website, we will be sharing examples of our children's work. This page is a workshop containing examples of learning in action. The work will not be the children's 'final draft’.

A Video Call to Father Christmas
Last Wednesday, the Year Three children were very excited to take part in a video call with an extremely important person: Father Christmas himself.
The children asked lots of questions about his elves and the reindeer before Father Christmas discussed all the letters he had received.
It was extremely interesting and all the Year Three children are hopeful that they will get another visit on Christmas Eve.

Year Three Art
In art, the children have been learning about the artist L.S. Lowry. After looking at lots of his paintings and sketching them, the children painted a picture of their own house. All of the paintings were put together and created a giant piece of art work. Well done Year Three!

Toothpaste instructions
3CD have worked incredibly hard writing instructions. We thought about our use of adverbs of time and imperative verbs. When we finished, we drew a picture to match each step.

Instructions
In English this week, we have been looking at instruction writing; how they are written and what makes a good set of instructions. As part of this, we followed a recipe for making a witch's sandwich. This was the outcome:
We are not sure that it looks particularly appetising, but it was an interesting recipe to follow. It would be great if the families of Year Three could have a look at other instructions at home. Perhaps they could even follow a recipe which creates something delicious!

Hero's Story by 3CD
After a visit to Wood Green Animal Shelter, the children in Year Three have been learning more about pet care and the welfare needs of animals. The children read about a kitten called Hero who was rescued by Wood Green. The children had to use adjectives and write a first person account imagining they were Hero.

Terrific Teeth
The children in Year Three have been busy learning about the different types of teeth we have and their functions. We all made models of our teeth and had to think really carefully about the shape of each tooth.

3JC-DA Gargoyle Poems
Early this term, 3JC/DA have been writing poems about Gargoyles. We based it on a poem we read as a class and then wrote poems concentrating on using adjectives and nouns to create exciting descriptions.
Here are some of our examples:

Home Learning Information for Year Three
This coming year, the home learning expectations are as follows:
Each week, there will be times table practice and either a written consolidation or Mathletics task set. (30 minutes)
In school, we have a weekly focus on a spelling rule. A list of spellings to learn that follow the week's rule will be provided. (20 minutes)
Children should read with an adult at least three times a week at home. Where possible, this could be every day. Renaissance Home Connect enables parents to see information about your child's progress within Accelerated Reader.
This
home learning will be set on a Thursday and will be due in the
following Tuesday. Home learning will begin on Thursday 14th September.
Class teachers will let their class know the day of the week spelling tests will take place.

3CD email to Jools Bentley
The children in 3CD emailed Jools Bentley, author of The Hippopandamouse. The children were very excited when she replied!
Questions and answers:
Questions and answers:
What made you choose the three animals that made the hippopandamouse?
I chose the three animals for the hippopandamouse because this letter combination sounded to me like a mistaken hippo-potto-mus… hippo-panda-mouse. I then just kept drawing combinations of the three animals together until I found a creature that looked appealing and characterful.
How long did it take to write the book?
It took me one year to write the book and draw and colour the illustrations, but I had the idea way back in 2007 so I had been thinking about it ever since then!
What is your favourite book you have written?
The Hippopandamouse is my favourite.
Do you know how many toys you drew in the book?
Haha! I have NO IDEA how many toys I drew in the book. All I can say is that it felt like millions! It was especially tricky drawing so many pairs of big eyes! (This question has now made me want to count them!)
How long have you been writing books?
I have been writing books since 2007 but The Hippopandamouse is my first published book. I am working on my second book to be published soon.
What made you become an author?
I became an author because telling stories and drawing pictures are my favourite things in the world to do. I love creating characters and imagining the world they live in and what happens to them. Because these things come from my imagination I can make up whatever I like and no one can tell me what to do! It’s such good fun!
Thank you so much for the great questions Class 3CD! I am really looking forward to visiting Crosshall Junior School.
Best wishes,
Jools Bentley

Tissue Paper Art
The children in 3CD were inspired by some artwork by Paul Clee.
First, we drew our self-portrait and then went over it with a marker pen. Then, we placed squares of tissue paper over our picture and brushed some water over the tissue paper. When it was dry, we peeled the tissue paper off.
We hope you enjoy our fantastic artwork!
