Welcome to the Year Three website. On this website, we will be sharing examples of our children's work. This page is a workshop containing examples of learning in action. The work will not be the children's 'final draft’.

March's Learning
We have had another fun-filled, busy month in Year Three!
In English, we were learning about fairy tales and we wrote our own version of The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf. At the end of our topic, we invited someone from our family in to hear our fairly tale and edit part of it together.
In maths, we continued with our learning about fractions; our learning journey finished with using fractions to design a pizza topping.
We then started learning about mass and capacity; our learning journey finished with a Crack the Code challenge and a treasure hunt in the playground.
In science, we wrote a letter to Framer Bloom to give him some advice about the suitable soil to use to grow his crops. We then found out more about different soils, how fossils are formed and even made our own fossil.
We had a Science Day where a visiting scientist came in. We had an environmental science lesson where we found out about why we shouldn't throw plastic into the ocean. We also had a bridge challenge: we needed to work in groups and design and make a bridge that would hold a weight (we had a budget which we needed to stick to too!).
In history, we found out more about mummification and we wrote our names in hieroglyphics. Our topic ended with a history / D.T. workshop where we created different sized pyramids.
In D.T., we were finding out about the 5 food groups and we designed and made a healthy cous cous snack. It was delicious!
In P.S.H.C.E, we were learning about different risks and how we can keep ourselves safe.
In French, we were learning about different fruits.
In music, we carried on learning our class song and learning how to play the glockenspiel to accompany the song.
In indoor and outdoor P.E., we were creating an Egyptian Dance routine, developing our throwing and catching skills and some classes started to go swimming.

February's Learning
The week before half term was Book Week!
During Book Week, we wrote a story based on the picture book Journey. In maths, our lessons started with a story and then we solved some different maths problems throughout the week based on a story we read in class.
Our geography topic about Greece ended with a travel exhibition. We visited different classes and needed to ask a range of questions about Greece.
Our history topic is Ancient Egypt! To start our topic, we had an Egyptian Day where we played some board games, learnt about Egyptian maths, worked in teams to answer quiz questions and ordered some historical events about Ancient Egypt on a timeline. It was certainly a Sparky Start to our new topic!

January's Learning
2023 started with the children in Year Three thinking about all the reading they did over the Christmas holiday and different things that involve reading skills. This was shared as a year group display for everyone to see.
We also thought about New Years resolutions and what we wanted to improve this year.
In maths, we started learning about length and perimeter. Our topic started with us measuring different things in our classroom using a range of equipment.
