May's Learning

In English, we have been learning about free-verse poetry.  We looked at the poem Cat Began by Andrew Matthews and then wrote our own poems about a robot and thought creatively about how it could be made.

In maths, we continued learning about money and then started learning about time.

Our science topic has been all about light and shadows. We looked at how shadows change over a day, learnt about how to stay safe in the sun, looked at different materials and then used all of our knowledge to create our own shadow puppet plays. It was great fun!

In history, we are studying Ancient Greece.  We worked in groups and acted out the story of Medusa and found about about hoplites.

In geography, we have been completing a range of orienteering challenges in the school grounds.  We had to read the map and go and visit different control points.

In computing, we have been making a range of animations in Scratch and continuing to learn about staying safe online.

In art, we have been drawing self portraits and also created a tissue paper portrait.

In P.E. we have continued to develop our teamwork skills and improve our bat and ball skills. We have also been learning about having a healthy and active lifestyle.

In French, we have been learning about fruits.

In R.E. we have been exploring a range of sacred books and stories.

Another busy month learning some great things!

January's Learning

Year Three have had a fantastic start to 2024

We started the year by completing a treasure hunt and finding out about how different countries celebrate the New Year.

In English, we found out about shape poems and we wrote our own firework poems. We wrote a neat copy of our poem and created some special books to share with local cares homes around St Neots.

After this, we moved onto our new topic about discussion texts.

In maths, we carried on learning about multiplication and division.  Our Learning Journey led to us helping Captain Barnacle Patch solve some mathematical questions ready for his voyage across the sea.  We also solved another multiplication and division problem where we helped Ms Eardley with the
Year Three stationery order.

In science, our new topic is about Rocks and Soils.  We have been busy finding out the names of lots of different rocks, finding out how they are formed and testing rocks for their hardness and permeability.

We had a really fun start to our geography topic as we tasted some different Greek foods. As a class we voted for the ones we liked the best.  We also did a Kahoot quiz in pairs and found out the similarities and differences between Greece and the U.K.  We will be using this knowledge at the end of our topic when we invite our families in to look at our hard work.

In Design and Technology, we are finding out about healthy foods.  We started our topic with tasting different foods and then we found out about the Eatwell Plate.

In Art, we are finding out about different patterns. In our first lesson, we found out about Henri Matisse and then we found out about different patterns from around the world and had a go at sketching some.  We then used paint and created our own repeating pattern design.

In Computing, we are finding out about branching databases.  We started by thinking of yes and no questions and then had a go at creating a branching database in pairs (on paper).
We are now busy learning about how to create a branching database on a website.

In P.E., we are creating a rhythmic gymnastic routine using hand apparatus and in our outdoor P.E. lessons we are developing our bat and ball skills.

In P.S.H.E. we are busy finding out about healthy lifestyles.

In R.E., we are finding out about how the world was created according to the views of different world religions.

In French, we're busy learning the names of musical instruments.

In music, we are learning about different musical styles and we are busy singing different songs and continuing to learn to play the glockenspiel.

WOW! We have certainly made a great start to the new year!
